The process includes applying to an office of the federal government called Service Canada for a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). LMIA’s are issued to Canadian companies who demonstrate that the hiring of a foreign worker will not hurt Canada’s labor market.
Many LMIA exempt programs allow foreign workers to visit Canada. Mostly, an individual who is neither Canadian nor a permanent resident of Canada will require a job offer from a Canadian business as a prerequisite to being issued a work permit to legally work in Canada.
